چکیده

After WW2, a huge market opened in the growing economies and cemented carbides contributed as tool materials and construction parts to their industrial development. Today, cemented carbides are the workhorses in all areas of the manufacturing industries: no factory without cemented carbide tools; no production of glass bottles, aluminium cans or plastic tubes which has not benefited from these hard and wear resistant materials; no steel or copper wire or tube drawn without them; and no advanced manufacturing system without relying on their properties, innovation potential, productivity and reliability. Starting from the first application as drawing die for the production of lamp wire used in the OSRAM workshops (Fig. 1), the application of cemented carbides has become universal and includes metal cutting, machining of wood, plastics, composites, soft ceramics, chipless forming (hot and cold), mining and construction, structural parts, wear parts, and military components.

Effect of WC/Co coherency phase boundaries on Fracture toughness of the nanocrystalline cemented carbides

The effect of coherency WC/Co phase boundaries on the fracture toughness of the nanocrystalline WC-Co cemented carbides is studied by MD simulation method. The simulation results show that the nanocrystalline WC-Co cemented carbides with coherency WC/Co phase boundaries has higher fracture toughness than that without coherency WC/Co phase boundaries. Moreover, the mechanism of why coherency WC/...

Effect of SiC nanoparticles addition on mechanical properties and wear resistance of cemented carbides fabricated by spark plasma sintering

WC-10Co cemented carbides containing 1 to 4 wt% SiC nanoparticles were prepared by spark plasma sintering. The effects of SiC content on microstructure, mechanical properties and wear resistance of the sintered materials were studied. Microstructural studies showed that SiC addition resulted in WC grain coarsening. In addition, the hardness decreased with increasing SiC content. However, the fr...

The Effect of sintering temperature on microstructure and hardness of milled WC- 20 wt.% equiatomic (Fe,Co) cemented carbides

In this study, WC–20 wt.% equiatomic (Fe,Co) powder mixture was milled in a planetary ball mill. The effects of different milling time (15 min, 5h, 10h, and 25 h) and sintering temperatures on the microstructure and mechanical properties of this equi-Fe substituted cermet were investigated. The structural evolution and the crystallite size changes of the powders during milling were monitored by...

Development of Cemented Carbide Tool of Reduced Rare Metal Usage

Cemented carbides, including coated cemented carbides, account for 75% of the cutting tools market because of their features such as high hardness, toughness, and the responsiveness to iron, through the use of tungsten carbide for their main hard phases and cobalt for their bonding metals. The consumption of tungsten continues to increase as the amount of carbide tool production increases with ...

Investigation on effect of holding time in brazing of steel to cemented carbide using Cu-Ag alloy filler metal

Nowadays, cemented carbides-steels joints by brazing method are taken into consideration. One of the problems of these joints is the creation residual stresses that can reduce it with choose correct parameters of brazing. In this study, Silver base alloy filler containing copper, zinc and cadmium have been used in temperature 780°C and the effect of time parameter 5, 10 and 15 minutes on micros...
